What to Expect
Most branding projects take between 4 and 8 weeks to complete. Much of this timeline depends on our collaboration and allowing enough time for each of us to contribute to the project in a meaningful way. Typically, the process will follow this pattern:
01
The Disco Meeting
We begin with a short meeting or phone call, meant to help us discover the specifics of your project and whether or not our working together feels like a mutually great fit. I call this discovery phase “the disco meeting”.
03
Research
After you complete your questionnaire, I begin the research phase. I will take a deep dive into topics like your competitive landscape, your value positioning, and your audience. All this will be assembled into a creative brief that includes my professional branding and design recommendations and art direction.
05
The Design Process
With the creative brief agreed on, I start in on sketching, designing, iterating, and adjusting. My creative process here differs based on your unique branding needs. If you have specific questions on my tools or methods, feel free to ask!
07
Revisions
Of course, there will be an opportunity for you to provide feedback or request changes. Up to three rounds of revisions are included in all of my branding packages. However, it’s not uncommon for my clients to happily sign off on the design at the Design Presentation with zero revisions. The goal is to get it right in a timeline that fits your needs.
02
The Questionnaire
The next phase is a bit of homework for you. I send you a contract outlining the deliverables, timeline, and fees associated with your unique project, along with some legalese to protect both of us. Along with this I send an invoice for a deposit (typically 25%-50% of your full project fee), and a questionnaire. The questionnaire is a deep dive into your organization. This is valuable for both of us, as it allows me to get thoroughly acquainted with your project, and can help you decide or solidify some ideas around the core of your brand. Win-win.
04
Creative Brief Presentation
We begin with a short meeting or phone call, meant to help us discover the specifics of your project and whether or not our working together feels like a mutually great fit. I call this discovery phase “the disco meeting”.
06
The Design Presentation
When I have something that checks all of our mutually agreed upon boxes, we sit down together again for the presentation. This time, we review the brand foundation and creative direction, and with that in mind, you get your first look at your new brand. Some of the previous reactions to this part have been “I’m giddy!” “This makes me feel like a legit business!” “I can’t stop staring” “You nailed it” and “This is amazing!”
08
The Build Out
With your new design approved, I will move on to creating any additional deliverables outlined in our contract. Often, these include web and print optimized logo files, brand guide books, website design, packaging, social media, or stationery. This is also when I might pull in other contractors, such as photographers or copywriters. At the end of this phase, you will have everything you need to confidently move forward with your new brand and design.
